Method for determination of nifedipine in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations

A new method is described for determining nifedipine, based on its oxidation by potassium permanganate at neutral pH. The reaction is followed spectrometrically by measuring the rate of change of absorbance at 530 nm. The calibration graph is linear in the range 18-44 mg mL^-1. The method has been applied to the determination of nifedipine in pharmaceutical preparations.
