The abiotic stress can increase the content of secondary metabolites in plants or in plant tissue cultures. The effect of the abiotic elicitors - NiCl2 and CoCl2 on the production of flavonoids in callus culture of Ononis arvensis L. after 24, 48 and 168-hours administration was examined. The tested elicitors markedly influenced the production of flavonoids in this culture. On the basis of our experiments can be concluded that Ni2+ and Co2+ mainly increased flavonoid production in Ononis arvensis L. callus culture mainly after 24 hours. The highest production of flavonoids was observed in the presence of Ni2+(4.2 x 10-7 mol L-1).
