A series of 2,3-disubstituted-1,3-benzoxazine-4-one derivatives has been synthesised via the reaction of salicylic acid with various primary amines followed by the cyclisation of the isolated amides with different aldehydes in acidic medium. In addition, 2-substituted-1,3-benzoxazine-4-one derivatives were prepared by condensation of salicylamide with various aldehydes. Spectroscopic data and elemental analyses substantiated the structure of the prepared compounds. Most of the synthesised compounds were found promising as antibacterial agents.
