Diffusion rate constants of ciprofloxacin and zinc-ciprofloxacin complex were assessed in two-compartment absorption apparatus with cellulose-based lipid membrane. The concentration of transported ciprofloxacin was determined by UV-Vis spectrometry and that of zinc by AAS. The ciprofloxacin and zinc ions passed the lipid membrane separately with significantly different diffusion rates and with no interaction effects. Diffusion rate constants obtained for ciprofloxacin (1.62-0.05 mm h-1) and zinc (0.41-0.20 mm h-1) in the transport of zinc-ciprofloxacin complex were comparable with corresponding values of the two species when transported independently.
