Antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract (1:1) of Satureja montana ssp. montana specimen from mountain Velebit was tested against eleven species of bacteria and five species of fungi. The hole-plate diffusion method pointed at the strongest activity against Bacillus subtilis, Sarcina flava, Candida tropicalis and Candida krusei. Applying the broth dilution method the highest sensitivity (MIC 3.1–4.1% and MMC 4.1–6.3%) of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus morgani, Candida tropicalis and Trychophyton menthagrophytes has been observed.
