New derivatives of 6-methyl-1-phenyl-5-substituted-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine (IIa,b, V, IX-XIVa,b, XVII-XXXII), pyrazolopyrimidoimidazole (IIIa), pyrazolo-pyrimidopyrimidine (IIIb), pyrazolopyrimidotetrazine (VI) and bis compounds (IVa,b, VII, VIII, XV, XVIa,b) were prepared and their structures determined by microanalysis, IR, 1H NMR and MS data. On preliminary screening several of the synthesised compounds exhibited in vitro growth inhibitory activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria and yeast. The structures of biologically active compounds VIII and XIII, remain unchanged when exposed to gamma-irradiation of up to 40 kGy.
